Welcome all of my beautiful ladies! Want the skinny on all the hot new eyeshadow products, tips, and trends? Well click no more!
You have arrived…….
Whether you want to rock the Katy Perry look, or to just spruce up the naturally fierce you. I’ve got your back! It doesn’t matter if you are a pro or if you have no idea what you are doing here and where to start.
I’m going to tell you everything you need to know to get the look that you want, starting with the ins and outs of eyeshadow palettes!
Neutrals Mattes and Colors Oh My!
First order of business. Don’t assume that any particular color or look is off limits to you. With a little knowledge and self-confidence, you will be surprised at what you can pull off!
One thing you should know is that the only way you are going to figure out what your best look is, it to experiment. Don’t knock till you try it. Eyeshadow palettes are the best products to start with.
The variety of colors will give you the opportunity to play around with different shades. Individual eyeshadows are great too if you already have a favorite color that you know you can work with.
But if you want the most bang for your buck, eyeshadow palettes are the way to go.
Some brands even offer you the option of being able to replace your favorite shades that you use more frequently as opposed to buying another entire palette.
Here is another bonus! The nice make up industry people have done us a solid by putting colors together in a manner that makes it easy to put a look together using a single palette.
For example, if you are going for an every day, low-key look, a neutral eyeshadow palette will be your best friend. These will have your basic black browns tans and other blands. This is a staple in every woman’s make up treasure chest. I say that because you will also need these neutral colors for other looks that you can achieve with your more fun color palettes.
Speaking of colors, you MUST have these in your life. Remember, don’t be afraid to try. Just keep your make up removing wipes handy for your do overs.
Have fun with it!
As a matter of fact, there are plenty of brands that have large sets that contain neutral colors, as well as other color options from your oranges and pinks, to your purple, greens, and blues. These are Awesome!
Matte colors are also some must haves. Shimmer is fun, but there needs to be a balance, especially when you consider the occasion at hand. Mattes may look bland but they give a very sophisticated edge to any look. Trust me, you need them. You won’t regret it. If you watch different make up tutorials you will notice that on almost all of them, they use a matte color in their look. So don’t miss out.
Glitter and Shimmer
Glitter and shimmer eyeshadow. This can be a scary subject.
These can take your look to another level, but use with caution. Your most frequently used shimmer colors will be gold tones, silver, rose, and charcoal grey. So pick a color palette that at least has these as they are going to be your go-to shades.
The gold colors can also be used for highlighting the inner eyes, as well as under your eyebrows to make your eyes pop! These shimmery colors are great for when you don’t really have time in the morning to do too much, but you want to look like you spent all morning primping.
Does This Match??
Contrary to popular belief, your eyeshadow does not have to match your clothes exactly ALL the time. I was so relieved when I came to this realization because I used to stress myself out in the mornings about what colors to use if I was going to have to change my clothes later in the day.
Way too much work……
Just keep in mind that most of the time the colors you will use on a daily basis, even if you have tailored them to your morning ensemble, will go with whatever you plan on wearing that evening. No need to try to pick out your clothes based on what’s on our eyes.
Colors are in, as well as mixing patterns and color schemes. So get out there and do your thing!
Cheap Stuff vs The Top Brands
Please don’t think that you have to buy the most expensive brands out there to look good. BUT! Remember, there is a huge difference between something being cheap and something being inexpensive. With that being said, don’t buy the cheap stuff. Here is why.
- Cheap/Knock off eyeshadows were likely made with inferior material and in unsanitary conditions.
- If you are looking for shimmer, it is likely only going to be on the top layer of each shade, not throughout
- Even with the best primer, the pigment will not show up well
- It will crease and look cheap
- They may cause skin and/or eye irritation
There are plenty of reputable low cost brands of eyeshadow palettes that work great! You can find these on several websites at great prices.
But, truth be told, the Top Brands do create excellent quality, highly pigmented, brilliant colors! OMG! So you can’t go wrong with those. I personally have a mixture of both. I can’t help myself. I’m an eyeshadow hoarder.
Whatever your choice, you can’t go wrong.
I think you are ready!
Don’t forget, try different looks. What you think won’t work may look great on you. Experiment. If you look like a raccoon on your first try, don’t give up. Wipe yourself off and try again.
Tutorials are life savers. Buy your staples, the beans and rice of the eyeshadow world, neutral colors like browns, blacks, and tans; as well as some shimmery palettes.
Try some color! Colors can change your whole look for the better. Everything does not have to match all the time so don’t fret.
And remember, Top Brands have the best quality. Inexpensive reputable brands are great too. Cheap knock offs are a no no. Ready……set….. Slay!
